This is a 3 stars hotel, not the 4 as mentioned. Facilities and furnitures are old. They are selling like US129~per night, it's not worth.
Pros: good location, close to metro, restaurants and convenience store
Cons: the air-condition system has breaks time, it is not working 24/7. It cannot support for the hot weather in Seoul. The night shift staff English is not for answering simple questions.
The Shilla Stay Mapo is conveniently located next to a metro station, with plenty of restaurants and shops in the surrounding area. The metro connection is excellent and makes it easy to reach most places in Seoul within about half an hour. The room itself is quite nice, and the hotel offers a good price-to-quality ratio. Initially, I would have recommended this hotel to others.
However, the biggest issue is the noise. Even on a high floor, the room is extremely noisy. The traffic noise is not limited to certain hours—it continues throughout the entire day and night. Even at 3 or 4 a.m., I was frequently woken up by traffic outside.
The sound insulation in the room is surprisingly poor for what is otherwise a very nice hotel. The noise is so loud that regular earplugs were not enough to help me sleep. In the end, I had to use active noise-cancelling earplugs just to get some rest.

Like many others have mentioned, the hotel refuses to turn on the air conditioning. Air conditioning in a hotel should be a basic standard, not a luxury. When we told the front desk that the room was uncomfortably hot, they said there was nothing they could do and would not allow us to adjust the temperature. They instead suggested opening the window, even though there was thick smog outside.
Checking out early and trying to get a refund was also a hassle. This hotel tries to present itself as upscale, but the service and basic amenities do not match that image.
The staff were very nice. The cleaning staff, in particular, spoke excellent English and were extremely helpful throughout our four day stay. However, the bathroom consistently smelled like smoke, and the room was quite dusty. An air purifier would have been very helpful. The TV was not connected to the internet, so casting did not work.
False Advertising and No Accountability!
Be cautious - the facilities advertised may not actually exist.
We booked this hotel through Booking.com, and the listing clearly stated that the rooms had air conditioning. However, when we arrived, there was no working air conditioning at all. The room stayed at around 23.5 degrees each day and 25 degrees each night, making it extremely uncomfortable to sleep.
We raised the issue with the staff, but they did nothing to resolve it or offer any reasonable form of compensation. Since then, they’ve ignored all follow-up communication from both us and Booking.com.
Booking.com confirmed that they tried contacting the hotel multiple times without success. In several instances, the hotel would answer but hang up as soon as they realised it was Booking.com calling.
I would strongly advise against staying here unless you’re happy having no control over your room temperature and dealing with unresponsive, unhelpful staff. Be cautious - the facilities advertised may not actually exist.
