Our stay at the Ramada Hotel Namdaemun was absolutely disastrous. The room was extremely outdated and in very poor condition.
What shocked us the most is that the hotel charges extra money for almost everything. Even additional pillows cost 22,000 won per pillow AND per day, which is outrageous. Want to stay just one extra hour in the room? That will be 33,000 won per hour. This is unacceptable.
Housekeeping is only done once every three days, which is far from acceptable for a hotel of this category. The mattresses are very thin, and you can literally feel the springs — extremely uncomfortable.
The bathroom had visible mold, which is a serious hygiene issue. As for the hallways, they felt depressing and looked more like detention cells than a hotel corridor.
We absolutely do NOT recommend this hotel. Avoid it at all costs.
This hotel tried to charge us a fee for lost door key card. We checked out early 5am in the morning but the guy at the front didn’t check us out. We are 100% sure we checked out. My partner was there and even my sister that was standing by the entry door saw us talking to the guy with all our luggage. Through messages I told them I didn’t understand why only one key was returned as I assumed that the guy at the front desk would’ve realised we were missing one card and would’ve asked us right there and then where the other key card was. They then replied claiming we never checked out, and that only one room key was found in the room after their staff went up to the room because we failed to check out before the check out time. I replied back saying we definitely checked out. Gave them the time we checked and told them to check the security cameras for proof. They then told me they only keep their security footage for two weeks (this exact conversation happened on Dec23 and we checked out Dec9)(edited: after checking the conversation thread thought booking, com this conversation actually happened December 20 not Dec23, so it was under two weeks). I found it a bit unusual for a big chain Hotel to only keep security footage for 2 weeks when I know, for security purposes, hotels keep their security footage 30-90 days. I know as I have worked in two hotels and worked in venues that keep their footage for 30 days plus. But instead of admitting they could’ve been the one who made a mistake which they did) they proceeded on telling me that because we said we checked out they will just take my word for it and refund the fee. I believe they knew they made a mistake and instead of admitting to it they give me the bull of “oh since u said so we will take your word for it”. Very poor form.
I actually wasn’t going to leave a review at all even thought our stay wasn’t 100% comfortable as the bed was rock hard and the staff weren’t very warm and welcoming but it wasn’t enough to leave a bad review, but after this incident I had to leave one.
I wouldn’t say I wouldn’t recommend this hotel because the location is great. But if you’re ok with a hard bed and staff that don’t speak to you when you walk in and walk out of the hotel then the location is enough. But just make sure for anyone staying that they give you a confirmation that you checked out and returned all the key card. I’m not sure if this is something they do to other clients.
I stayed here for 7 nights during a business trip. I had no complaints. I was surprised to see all the negative comments about Ramada in the reviews so here is my experience.
- kind and helpful reception
- very clean, impeccable housekeeping service. Comfy bedding and pillows
- complimentary water services
- spacious and larger than average room
- Great heating floor and water heater
- breakfast also had different varieties including korean
Overall, it was a great experience. I absolutely had no complaints and highly recommend to any tourists or locals.
There is a CU right at the front and its a central location less than 10 minutes to Myungdong
I had two reservations in a row, because I had a private stay following the business stay. I asked to stay in the same room to avoid the inconvenience of changing the room. They said they could not allow it because they were different categories. I asked for a downgrade for the first reservation to fit my request. They were not flexible at all. Besides, I had to check out at 11am and check in again at 3pm. They did not even rush to prepare a room so that I could change without waiting. They are not flexible at all. It seems they just don't care.
We booked Ramada for 8 days, and not even 24 hours in, we were woken up before 9am by extremely loud construction noises from the room right next to us. It was so loud we couldn’t even hold a conversation, let alone relax or rest. When we reported it to reception, they didn’t even apologize. They just casually said the construction would be from 10am to 5pm every day and when we asked how long it would last, they said they didn’t know. I honestly have no idea why they would place guests right next to an active renovation, it shows a complete lack of care.
We had an important appointment that day, so we arranged to switch rooms the next morning at 10am. But again, the noise started before 9am. It was honestly unbearable. We complained again, and they moved us to another room but the new room was nothing like the photos. The entire layout and standard was just totally downgraded. It felt like a completely different hotel from the one they advertise online. But we were initially willing to let that go without any complaints.
However, what truly made the experience unbearable was the poor customer service we’ve received from the very beginning. Every time we approached reception whether it was about the unbearable construction noise, the lack of information, or the room change, that one staff was consistently cold, dismissive, and unhelpful. At no point were we offered a genuine apology or even treated with basic courtesy. When we raised our concerns about the room, the receptionist responded in a condescending and indifferent tone, simply saying “It’s different,” with no further explanation.
It wasn’t just one interaction, it was a pattern of unwelcoming, unprofessional behavior from the very first day. And that’s ultimately what made our experience so disappointing. Had the staff shown even a bit of understanding or hospitality, we would’ve been much more patient and understanding. Instead, we were made to feel like we were a burden for simply asking for what we paid for. The service has been so bad that we honestly don’t even want to stay the remaining 6 days.
Definitely wouldn’t recommend. There’s no accountability, no hospitality, and no peace here.
