GangnamStay - foreign female only

Set a 10 minute walk away from the hustle and bustle of Gangnam, tucked into a quieter safe clean residential area - Gangnam Stay was everything I could ask for from a female hostel. The warmth with which Nara and Sue hosted each and every guest made the hostel feel like one large girls sleepover out of a movie. They made the effort to get to know each guest and so similarly most guests also did the same - leading to some riveting conversations at the kitchen dining table till 4am.

What really stood out to me was the way in which Sue reached out to me before I even left Sydney to help me out on how to reach the hostel - cutting my research time by so much! And once I arrived she provided me with extensive notes on suggested places to visit, shopping and food spots to try - with links attached.

Did I mention how most mornings a form of traditional Korean breakfast was made and served? Incredible. Oh and how clean and safe the facilities were with the locks.

I definitely would visit again. The staff have done a very commendable job!

This review is directed solely at the online customer service experience, particularly my interaction with Jason. It is not related to the host or the hostel facilities. I will provide an update after my stay.

Before even checking in, I was left questioning whether I had done something wrong, which was not a pleasant start to the experience.

Due to bed arrangement concerns, Saturday morning Hoster Sue kindly offered me the option to cancel, for which I was grateful. Because of the time difference and the fact that my reply was sent in Sunday Evening, my response was delayed — I acknowledge that this was on my side.

However, when Jason later responded, he stated that cancellation was not possible and added that “the hotel does not have the authority to cancel a guest’s reservation on their behalf.” This appeared to contradict Sue’s earlier message, so I sent a complaint message, but I didn't insist on canceling the order.

In the subsequent communication, while the response was presented as professional, it also included comments regarding the speed of my replies. My weekend response time was compared to my weekday response time. I believe response timing can vary depending on personal circumstances, and attaching judgment to it felt unnecessary and unrelated to resolving the issue.

Travelers who need to communicate with this customer service may wish to ensure that all communication is clearly documented.

The hostel has everything you need, a washing machine, kitchen utensils, a comfortable bed, and clean towels. It's very clean!

I had an enjoyable stay at this hostel. It’s an all-female dorm run by three amazing women. Sue was incredibly helpful and gave me all the information I needed to explore Gangnam and the rest of Seoul.
The house is very clean, well-stocked with everything you might need, and there's always food available. Sue and her mother even cooked different meals for us during our stay, which made it feel even more like home. Her aunt was also very warm and welcoming; we had great conversations and shared lots of laughs.
I stayed in the 6-bed room, which was spacious and comfortable. Each guest is provided with a large locker that easily fits both their belongings and their suitcase.
Many of the guests were return visitors, some staying for the second, third, or even fourth time. A few were in Seoul for plastic surgery and found this place to be a safe and supportive environment during their recovery.
If you’re looking for a clean, safe, comfortable, and welcoming place to stay in Seoul, I highly recommend this hostel. The location is also invaluable for experiencing authentic Seoul. Although I was there for only 7 nights, Sue stayed in touch even after I left to make sure the rest of my trip went smoothly, especially since it was my first time visiting South Korea.

Sue and her mom are wonderful hosts! I had a lovely and memorable time in Seoul thanks to their warm hospitality! Imo made some really good lunch and dinner and her smiles always brightened my days. It is a budget friendly stay and a good place to meet other women travellers from across the globe! If I ever plan to return to South Korea again, I'd definitely stay here again.

I had a fantastic stay at Gangnam Stay Foreign! As a female traveler, I felt completely safe and comfortable throughout my time here. The atmosphere is cozy, spacious, and truly feels like a second home. Everything is clean and well-maintained, and the owner and staff are incredibly friendly and always willing to help. Their hospitality made my experience even more enjoyable.

Beyond the great accommodation, I also met amazing people and created unforgettable memories. If you’re looking for a warm, welcoming, and secure place to stay in Gangnam, I highly recommend it!
