익스테이 동대문 Extay Dongdaemun

I think it’s a good option for the price and because the subway station is right in front. However I found it very small and I found a dirty sock on the side of the bed which made me uncomfortable and a little bit paranoid about all the cleaning.
The location is so so.
It’s close to the subway but on the back/Right side the zone it’s not that great, I recommend you check it out first.
But well, you get what you pay!

We stayed at Extay Dongdaemun for 8 nights, and it was very much a mix of good and not-so-good — but overall still decent for the price.

There’s a 24-hour Kyochon Chicken right downstairs, (same building) which was honestly very convenient, especially when you are tired, cold and just want food.

What we liked:
Getting around was super easy. The stairs and lift to the train station is right in front of the building, which made daily travel very convenient. The shared areas, like the kitchen, were clean and well-maintained, and everyone was respectful — people cleaned up properly after using the shared utensils, which made the space pleasant to use.

There’s heater in the bathroom which makes showering in the winter more bearable.

What didn’t work so well:
There’s basically no sound insulation. I could hear people talking and laughing late into the night, which affected my sleep. Luggage was another challenge — there’s a lift, but it serves two floors, so you need to walk up / down some stairs. Without luggage it’s fine but with them, it’s not an easy task

On our check-in day, the lift was out of order, and I had to carry three large luggages up to level 4. That was honestly a nightmare.

The room itself is quite small. While it technically fits up to four people, space for luggage is very limited, so it can feel cramped if you’re travelling with big bags.

All that said, I’d still say it’s worth the price, especially if location and convenience matter to you and you don’t mind compact living.

I really loved your hotel. it’s very close to Exit 6 of Dongdaemun Station, making it easy to access for older people or wheelchair users. I’m very grateful that the entrance is near the train station, it really helps after a tiring day.

The room is cozy and perfect for 2–3 people, though it might feel a bit tight with more luggage. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and you can leave your bags if you plan to explore before heading to the airport. Towels are provided (though small), and there’s a shared kitchen and laundry area with detergent, very convenient!

Just a small note: the bidet in Room 104 isn’t working, but it’s not a major issue.

Super strategic — food stalls & convenience stores are around the corner. Dongdaemun Subway Exit 6 is right in front of the hostel building. From the airport, I took the Airport Limousine Bus 6002 and the bus stop was only about 7 minutes from the hostel. For going back, I booked the Korea Airport Limousine (KAL) 6702 from JW Marriott Dongdaemun, just 5 minutes walk away. Super convenient! The pantry is clean and comfortable, with hot/cold water and free sticks coffee + tea — perfect! There’s also a washing machine + dryer, which is a HUGE plus for me. Washing takes around 40 minutes, drying about 1–2 hours depending on load. Thanks to this, I could pack light and save luggage space for my shopping spree 😂

Loved our stay here! We stayed in a basic room with a bunk bed. The room was clean. AC worked well. Windows were well insulated to noise. Bathroom was not a wet room, which was great. Very easy, contactless check in process. Free laundry onsite was modern and fast. Luggage storage available. Excellent location immediately next to the subway exit. Less than 15mins to Myeongdong on that line with no transfers. Immediately next to some beautiful ancient architecture. Good coffee within walking distance and plenty of food options. Value for money was excellent at only $40 for the night. Would stay here again, definitely.
